'67–'68 Mustang Fastback Roll Bar – Shelby Style
This roll bar is custom fabricated to fit 1967–1968 Mustang fastbacks, including Dynacorn bodies (minor adjustment may be required). Modeled after an original '67 Shelby bar, it's made from 1 3/4" x .095" mild steel tubing, mandrel bent and MIG welded for strength and precision.
-
Floor plates: .120"
-
Roof tabs: .187"
-
Upper mounts bolt to factory shoulder harness points
-
Lower mounts bolt or weld to the floor
-
Requires notching of fiberglass quarter panels (like the original Shelbys)
Important Installation Notes:
-
Roof brackets must be welded by the customer. Welded brackets shown in photos are for reference only.
-
To avoid oversized shipping costs, we do not pre-weld the roof brackets.
-
Does not include brackets for original Shelby inertia reels.
-
No longer includes tabs for “Y” style 5-point harnesses. Use wraparound-style belts for modern 5-point harnesses.

Roll Bar Installation Instructions – '67–'68 Mustang Fastback
Shipping Note:
To avoid oversized shipping charges, the roll bar is shipped bare (no box). Packaging it in a box offered minimal protection and significantly increased costs. FedEx prohibits shrink wrap as packaging, so this shipping method was recommended by a FedEx shipping consultant.
Installation Overview:
-
Bracket Identification:
-
The upper roof brackets are labeled Left and Right.
-
The roll bar is marked where these brackets need to be welded.
-
-
Spacing for Upper Roof Brackets:
-
These brackets must be spaced approx. 1/2" away from the roof structure.
-
This gap accommodates the headliner, factory shoulder harnesses, and allows the roll bar to be inserted.
-
Spacing can be achieved using a stack of washers. Some variation may occur depending on factory tolerances.
-
-
Interior Prep:
-
Remove the fiberglass side panels next to the seats before installation.
-
-
Upper Mounting Tabs:
-
These tabs bolt to the inner roof structure where factory shoulder belts were mounted.
-
When installed correctly, the upper roll bar tabs face forward (toward the front of the car).
-
-
Lower Mounting Points:
-
The lower mounts bolt or weld (welding preferred) to the floor underneath the fiberglass side panels.
-
The mounting plate should sit in front of the raised 1" floor flange, not on the flat carpeted section.
-
Important Fitment Notes:
-
Upper Tab Fitment:
-
The upper tabs are not too narrow. Mustang bodies vary slightly between the three plants Ford used in the 1960s.
-
This roll bar is designed to fit all factory variations using a single jig.
-
The small gap between the roll bar tabs and the roof structure can be filled with flat washers or custom spacers.
-
If using stock shoulder belts, they’ll help fill this gap naturally.
-
-
Adjusting Fitment:
-
Some vehicles may require slight hole enlarging or tweaking of the upper brackets for the mounting bolts to fit.
-
Mounting bolts are not included due to the wide range of required lengths.
-
-
Floor Gap Adjustment:
-
If there’s a gap at the floor mounting point, use 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4" flat plate to build it up.
-
These plates can be welded or bolted under the lower mounting plates.
-
Fitting the Side Panels:
-
With the roll bar bolted in (not welded yet), measure from a fixed reference point to mark the fiberglass panels.
-
Use a 1 ¾" hole saw and a die grinder to notch the fiberglass panels.
-
Start small and adjust as needed for a clean, snug fit.
-
The roll bar can still be adjusted slightly for fine-tuning the panel fitment.
Final Welding:
-
Once everything fits properly, weld the bottom plates using at least a 130-amp MIG, TIG, or arc welder.
